Advanced Obedience Program
Program Overview
This is a continuation of the Basic obedience program.
the 6-week Advanced program establishes core behaviours and traits essential for future working. Each 1-hour private session builds upon previous learning while developing the Dog’s drive, focus, and obedience.
Class Structure
- 10 minutes: Dog check-in and warm-up
- 40 minutes: Core training exercises
- 10 minutes: Handler education and homework review

Weekly Session Breakdown
Week 1: Foundation Enhancement
**Theme: Precision and Duration**
*First 30 minutes:*
– Review and refine basic positions (sit, down, stand) Basic E-Collar introduction!
– Focus on speed of response
– Introduce position changes without stepping forward
– Work on handler position variations
– Duration work:
– Extended stays with mild distractions
– Introduction to “place” command on elevated surface
*Second 30 minutes:*
– Introduction to hand signals
– Converting verbal cues to hand signals
– Teaching “watch me” for sustained attention
– Homework assignment:
– Practice duration stays in various locations
– Work on hand signal recognition in quiet environments
Week 2: Distance Work
**Theme: Spatial Control**
*First 30 minutes:*
– Distance stay exercises
– Gradual distance increases
– Adding movement during stays
– Introduction to recall from greater distances
– Boundary training
– Teaching respect for invisible lines
– “Wait” at thresholds
*Second 30 minutes:*
– Introduction to directional commands
– “Go around” object
– “Left” and “Right” concepts
– Homework assignment:
– Practice stays with distance in new environments
– Work on threshold control at home
Week 3:Advanced Impulse Control
**Theme: Self-Control in Challenging Situations**
*First 30 minutes:*
– Food refusal exercises
– Walking past dropped food
– Leave it with high-value items
– Delayed gratification work
– Wait for release to toys/food
– Calm behavior around exciting stimuli
*Second 30 minutes:*
– Introduction to complex impulse control scenarios
– Multiple dogs present
– Moving distractions
– Exciting sounds/activities
– Homework assignment:
– Practice food refusal in various locations
– Work on calm greetings with familiar dogs/people
Week 4: Command Chains
**Theme: Complex Behaviors and Sequences advanced E-Collar System**
*First 30 minutes:*
– Teaching command combinations
– “Down, stay, come, finish”
– “Go to place, down, stay”
– Introduction to position changes at a distance
*Second 30 minutes:*
– Advanced tricks that combine multiple behaviors
– Retrieve and place object in specific location
– Go around object and return to heel
– Homework assignment:
– Practice 3-step command chains
– Work on distance position changes
Week 5:Advanced Skills & Real-World Application
Public Access Skills
**Theme: Reliability in Real-World Environments**
*First 30 minutes:*
– Controlled greetings
– Proper meeting of strangers
– Maintaining position during conversations
– Public manners
– Elevator/door etiquette
– Settling in public spaces
*Second 30 minutes:*
– Environmental challenges
– Working around crowds
– Handling unexpected noises
– Moving through tight spaces
– Homework assignment:
– Practice settling in public (pet-friendly stores)
– Work on greetings with new people
Week 6: Proofing & Problem-Solving
Off-Leash Reliability
**Theme: Freedom with Control**

– Off-leash work in controlled environment
– Emergency recall
– Maintaining position during movement
– Response to commands with distractions
*Second 30 minutes:*
– Complex scenarios combining all learned skills
– Off-leash navigation course
– Multiple command chains

– Final assessment and future training recommendations
