Advanced Puppy Group Training Curriculum Ages 8-16 weeks
Program Overview
This 3-week foundational program establishes core behaviours and traits essential for future working. Each 1-hour private session builds upon previous learning while developing the puppy’s drive, focus, and basic obedience.
Class Structure
- 10 minutes: Puppy check-in and warm-up
- 40 minutes: Core training exercises
- 10 minutes: Handler education and homework review

Weekly Session Breakdown
Week 4: Impulse Control & Distance Work
**Session Focus:**
Self-control and working with distractions
In-Session Training:
– “Stay” command introduction
– “Leave it” with movement
– Door manners and threshold training
– Distance work with basic commands
– Introduction to “place” command
Homework Assignments:
– Practice “stay” starting at 5 seconds, 3 feet away
– Work on door manners at home
– Begin “place” training with a bed or mat
– Continue socialization with focus on other animals
– Practice all previous commands with minor distractions
Week 5:Advanced Skills & Real-World Application
**Session Focus:** Combining commands and practical applications
In-Session Training:
– Multiple command sequences
– “Drop it” introduction
– Recall with distractions
– Advanced “leave it” exercises
– “Place” command with duration
Homework Assignments:
– Practice command sequences in different rooms
– Work on “drop it” with toys
– Continue building duration on “place”
– Practice recalls in new environments
– Begin introducing moderate distractions to all exercises
Week 6: Proofing & Problem-Solving
**Session Focus:** Solidifying training and addressing specific challenges
In-Session Training:
– Review and proof all commands
– Problem-solving session for specific issues
– Introduction to advanced training concepts
– Assessment of progress
